Bindle Rev | Description |
---|---|
1 | This is the first Bindle, with Daniel, Tony, Steffin, Kevin, and Matt. I think I've got lots of live and practice session recordings from this Bindle that has never been dumped to the computer. |
2 | Bindle after Daniel bowed out. Tony, Steffin, Kevin, Matt. Interestingly enough: after he bowed out, he immediately started recording demos for us. Daniel thinks this was the best Bindle of them all. |
3 | Justin, Tony, Steffin, Kevin, Matt. Bindle after Justin joined. When he first started playing with us, he didn't even have a keyboard and thus was borrowing my shitty Yamaha PSR540. |
4 | The final Bindle, after we and Tony parted. Justin, Steffin, Kevin, Matt. Our days were numbered ... so we immediatly went into the studio (First Street Audio, Bart Rose engineering) to record a CD. 9 tracks were done .. well, really 8, 'cause 1 is just the bizarre vocal mix from another. We got to the point that we had all the tracks mixed and ready to master ... then broke up. 1 track ("Yousuf", misspelled of course) saw the light of day on the First Street Sessions Vol. 2 compilation CD. On the studio recordings, all lead/harmony vocals are done by Justin except where noted. We'd run out of money at that point, and getting a decent harmony track out of me or Steffin was not in the budget any more. The two Demos are just some of the Mixed-Not-Mastered tracks punched up a bit. |
Bindle Mk 1, Demo Recordings | ||
PopTart | The distorto mix | |
Princess | Pearl Jam? | |
Sunrise | This was described on Garageband.com as "safe jazz for white people" | |
(added 10.26.04) | ||
The View | Recorded (for free!) at Dallas Sound Labs. Here's where that "funky rock" label came from. Dave Matthews, eat your heart out. | |
(added 01.17.11) | ||
Bottle Rocket | From the same sessions that produced Princess and Sunrise. | |
5 Days Gone (Acoustic) | Acoustic demo for the song 5 Days Gone, recorded at a practice on 2000.02.16 | |

Hand | Steffin playing bass, Matt playing a white-noise guitar | |
Luckiest Day | ||
Untitled | We never came up with a name for this one; only played it live a few times anyway. | |
Bindle Mk 1, Live @ Ridglea Theater 2.24.2000 | ||
(added 10.14.2007) We played on a Thursday night with Anything Said Echo and Pending. Big live reverby sound from the big room at Ridglea. | ||

Start Again [Untitled] | I don't remember the name of this song. Suggestions are welcome. Encouraged, even. | |
Survive [Untitled] | Again, don't remember the name of this song. We used to play it and transition into Hand, because we used the drum rideout at the end to switch instruments. | |
Hand | ||
The View | Slightly different arrangement than the demo version. | |
Wasted So Much Time [Untitled] | Don't remember the actual title. Or that I ever played triangle on stage. | |
Bottlerocket | Somewhere there is a recording of this from the same demo sessions that produced Sunrise, Princess, and Pop Tart. Damned if i can find it though. | |
5 Days Gone | ||
Unknown | I'm not even going to hazard a name for this one. Slide guitar from Steffin, chickin' pickin' from Gomez, and country stomp from Matt and Kevin. With a typically Bindle twist at the end. And in the bridge .. in 7/4. | |
I Wish | Yes, the Stevie Wonder song. The beginning sounds chaotic, but if I recall we did it on purpose to make it _seem_ like we were falling into the song. It was all carefully planned out. Trust me. | |
Pop Tart | ||
Bindle Mk 1, Live @ The Aardvark 4.21.2000 | ||
(added 10.21.2007) Friday night, Sun Risa opened up for us. The first song is a bit loud and distorted, but then the mix clears up. | ||

Kevin and Matt wank | Killing time between songs. | |
Neuman | This is "Unknown" from 02.24 set. I remembered the name .. it comes from the last line, which is "Neuman wears his thorny crown." | |
5 Days Gone | ||
Jan Jan [Miles Davis] | Technically, this is us covering Robert Walters' version of the Miles Davis tune. Extended jamming and solos from Steffin and Daniel. | |
Survive | ||
Hand | ||
Elevator | ||
What Goes Around [Lenny Kravitz] | Only the first minute or so of the song are here; the disk ran out after that. | |
Bindle Mk 2, Demo Recordings | ||
10000 Miles | This seemed to be the crowd favorite during this stage of Bindle. Note that all these demo tracks were recorded & mixed by Daniel ... after he quit. | |
Before | Tony's farewell song to Daniel after Daniel left the band. | |
State of Girl | About one of those girls that calls you whenever she needs help or fun or is in trouble. If you listen you can hear clicks and pops from the bass .. I was detuned to a drop-D and the low string was VERY loose; kept whacking the exposed pole pieces on the pickup. That's why I always tape the top of them now | |
Yusuf | Version of Yosuf with Tony singing. This isn't really live, but was headed towards a demo. | |
Bindle Mk 2, Live @ Wreck Room, 10-27-2000 | ||
Blink | As it was originally written. Live @ Wreck Room 10-27-00 | |
Mosca | The title is N Tx Spanish slang for "fly" or "mosquito". Live @ Wreck Room 10-27-00 | |
Spinning | Mainly by Tony, about dealing with diabetes. Live @ Wreck Room 10-27-00 | |
(added 10.22.04) More from 10-27-2000 | ||
Anonymity | ||
Before | ||
Revengeance | I was never sure what this song was about. | |
Robot | Tony playing very basic and limited keybaords. | |
Bindle Mk 3, Live at the Aardvark, 05-05-2001 | ||
(added 07.29.07) | ||
Spinning | This is a Cinco de Mayo recording from a show at the Aardvark. Pretty good recording (direct from the board) and playing as well. Even the harmonies don't make me cringe ... much. Of interest are the early prototype lyrics to Automatic, which wasn't quite solidified yet as a song. | |

Getchoo [Weezer] | We didn't do a huge number of cover songs. Here's a couple of examples why. What a bunch of goofs. "This the most popular Weezer tune you'll ever hear. Ever. From us." indeed. | |

Automatic | All vocals Justin except for the very first "Lost my metal skin", where I sang the harmony. | |

Pop Tart | EVERYBODY on vocals, hand percussion, yells and screams and claps, weird noises, anything we could think of. | |
Red Hair | All vocals Justin except the very last "I think I found the one", which is Steffin. | |
Yusuf | ||
The Magic Pop Tart Vocal Mix | Destined to be the "hidden track" on the CD. | |
Bindle Mk 4, Demo Recordings | ||
some of the M-n-M stuff we had mastered at First Street Audio | ||
Red Hair | Written jointly by Tony (the words and melody) and Justin (music and arrangement). | |
Automatic | Jointly written by the Justin-and-Tony lineup (Bindle mk 3), recorded after Tony was gone. | |
Helicopter | Tony wrote this one. | |
Next Year | Justin-penned. | |
Bindle Mk 4, Live @ Dada 1.4.2002 | ||
I think this was our next-to-the-last show. Opened for Tall and Longhouse (who broke up/broke down/didn't show), and played right after Hard Night's Day (the Beatle's tribute). Note a lot more singing from Matt (mostly ill-advised) to try to cover the harmonies and 2nd lead on Red Hair. | ||
Mosca | ||
Blue Eyed Devil | [Soul Coughing] | |
Automatic | ||
Said and Done | Last song Justin brought to the band before we disbanded. | |
Buffet | This is legitimately the only song the Bindle Mk4 ever wrote as a unit. Its about people who just can't stop when they've had enough (of anything, not just food). | |

Bindle Mk 4, Live @ Ridglea Theater 2.2.2002 | ||
The last show. Upstairs in the lounge at the Ridglea Theater; it was packed and hot and everything it should have been. This the raw recording, chunked up into multiple mp3s, with quite a bit of goofy between-song stuff intact. Interesting note: Opening up this show was a new (then) band from Denton named Midlake, who have gone on to much bigger and better things. We went out in good company. | ||
